Author’s   Note

The occasion for writing the article entitled “ The Roots of Karabakh issue” was the suggestion made by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Rebublic of Armenia Niccar Muhammed Ispahani to write a ten-page analytical article on Nagorni Karabakh issue of 1996. A few days later I presented the article to the embassy where I drew parallels between the issues of Artsakh and Atrpatakan. Having read the translation of the article, the ambassador invited me to the embassy once more saying that he’d been looking for an author for nearly two years who would present the Nagorno Karabakh issue. Then he threw the articles by prominent writers on the table with an air of displeasure. Looking  through  the articles I understood the reason for his displeasure . The approach to the above-stated issue was too careful, reserved and constrained. The ambassador suggested  writing an article on Karabakh issue, at the same time showing me the draft of the agreement. We agreed on a monthly pay. Yet the agreement was not signed though it was ready long ago. I had already started writing the article and it was difficult for me to stop it. Mr. Niccar helped me acquire materials in the form of newspapers and books published in different countries of the world  and also analytical articles by well-known scientists . Together with archival materials collected in Mashtots Matenadaran, National Library of Armenia, the library of  National Academy of Sciences of Armenia, thousands of materials being once registered  by the Soviet radio stations (mainly based on the materials broadcast on the radio and  TV of different countries of the world concerning Karabakh issue) and  also the press of ethnic minorities of Azerbaijan and Dagestan and also the press of Baku were regularly brought to me.

I did my best to maintain the balance and impartiality between all the sides giving maximum information for further investigation of the issue. As a result of a year’s hard work I wrote a 650-page book It is the history of the above-stated issue and that of the development of the historical periods since the expedition of Sardur B to Artsakh (741BC) up to the present days, using more than 3500 sources Mr. Niccar paralelly bad the completed chapters translated. Yet the printed version of either in Armenian or English is endlessly delayed. In the end the mission of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary ended and Mr. Niccar left for his home country. I’ve made some unsuccessful attempts to find means for publishing of the book though the demand for similar works throughout the world is great for profound investigation of Karabakh issue.

In 2005 an official of the embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Armenia informed me that in Tehran Mr. Niccar had made my book “The Roots Of Karabakh Issue” the subject of his doctoral thesis which he subsequently defended. I made an instant call to the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Armenia expressing my protest against it saying the I would probably bring an action against Mr. Niccar at the court. The newly-appointed ambassador asked me not to do it apologizing on behalf of the former ambassador connected with my copyright violation.

In the end I had to accept the offer of the director of the company Massaca involved information technologies Vazguen Ghazaryan to place the above-stated work on a special web site www.therootsofkarabakh.com
